Chinese tourists to Indonesia Ranked No. 1

According to Jakarta Post reports, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari Elka Pangestu said 324,344 tourists from China visited Indonesia in the January-April period of the year, an increase of 30.42 percent year-on-year, which accounts for 11 percent of total foreign tourists visiting Indonesia. "We saw encouraging growth in the number of Chinese tourists over the past years. China outpaced Japanese tourists two years ago and now they've outpaced Australia," Mari told reporters.

In 2001, Indonesia became destination country for Chinese tourists. Ever since, Chinese tourists to Indonesia have been increasing rapidly. Meanwhile, China also became one of the most favoured country for Indonesian tourists and students. Report showed that China received 700,000 Indonesian tourists and 15,000 Indonesian students in 2012.
