On December 5th, Chinese Embassy in Indonesia and Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) co-hosted a lecture by H.E. Mr He Yafei, Deputy Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, on "one belt, one road" initiative (OBOR).

He introduced the background and explained that OBOR looks to build "five connectivities" with a view of creating a community of nations with a common destiny. These "five connectivities" include policy consultation, infrastructure connectivity, free trade, free circulation of local currencies, and people-to-people connectivity. In sum, these connectivities denote the "big trends" in economic globalization and socialization, the information revolution, and shared economic growth. "It's essentially a developmental strategy to have regional economic growth and regional integration, expanded to cover as much area as possible," said He.

He also elaborated on the potential and prospects of China-Indonesia cooperation on building the 21st century maritime silk road.

The moderator was Dino Patti Djalal, former deputy foreign minister and founder of FPCI.
