On May 27 local time, the first meeting of the deputy-prime-ministerial people-to-people exchange mechanism between China and Indonesia was held in Jakarta. President Xi Jinping and President Joko Widodo of Indonesia sent a congratulatory message to the meeting respectively.
Xi Jinping said in his congratulatory message that China and Indonesia have constantly enhanced the bilateral political mutual trust and witnessed fruitful results in bilateral practical cooperation since the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership in October, 2013, bringing tangible results to the two peoples. He believes that the launch of the China-Indonesia people-to-people exchange mechanism at deputy-prime-ministerial level will help promote bilateral exchanges and cooperation in people-to-people and cultural engagement, link the hearts of the two peoples, and facilitate mutual understanding of the two civilizations, so as to cement the public opinion foundation for the development of bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership.
Xi Jinping stressed that the initiative of 21st Century Maritime Silk Road put forward by China highly tallies with the development plan of Global Maritime Fulcrum forged by Indonesia, and the two nations enjoy strong complementarity in their development, great potential in bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation and broad prospect for bilateral cooperation. It is hoped that both sides could take the opportunity and join efforts to promote China-Indonesia comprehensive strategic partnership for constant development.
Joko Widodo expressed that the establishment of a bilateral high-level people-to-people exchange mechanism is a consensus reached between him and President Xi Jinping. As the two countries have established dialogue mechanisms on political security and economic cooperation already, establishing the people-to-people exchange mechanism is aimed at providing stronger public support for vigorous development of bilateral relations. He is looking forward to the positive results from the people-to-people exchange mechanism thus promoting bilateral relations for greater development.
Vice Premier Liu Yandong read the congratulatory message of President Xi Jinping and co-chaired the first meeting of the deputy-prime-ministerial people-to-people exchange mechanism between China and Indonesia together with Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Puan Maharani of Indonesia. Both sides signed agreements on cooperation and exchanges in education, science, technology, culture and other sectors.
The establishment of the deputy-prime-ministerial people-to-people exchange mechanism between China and Indonesia is an important measure to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, and it is also the first high-level people-to-people exchange mechanism established between China and a developing country.
