On April 24 local time, the state leaders attending the Asian-African Summit in Indonesia gathered in Bandung to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Bandung Conference. President Xi Jinping and his wife Mme. Peng Liyuan attended the commemorating activities.
The spring of Bandung in April is in full bloom and the city is also permeated with a rich festive atmosphere. The streamers welcoming the Asian and African leaders hung in the main streets. Cheerful local people and students gathered at both sides of the streets and waved national flags of Asian and African countries, welcoming the distinguished guests.
At around 9:00 in the morning, the commemorating activities kicked off. Xi Jinping, together with other Asian and African state leaders as well as state leaders from other regions, walked to the Independence Building, the venue of Bandung Conference, along the Grote Postweg (Asia Afrika Street) from the Savoy Homann Hotel. Xi Jinping and his wife as well as Indonesian President Joko Widodo and his wife led the parade and waved to the crowd at both sides of the street. When the Bandung Conference convened 60 years ago, the participating Asian and African state leaders also walked to the Independence Building for the Conference from the Savoy Homann Hotel.
Upon arriving at the Building, the participating leaders took a group photo, reviewed the ten principles of the Bandung Conference, watched the commemorative video "Journey of Asian-African Summit from 1955 to 2015", and enjoyed artistic performance full of Indonesian national customs.
At the commemorative meeting, Xi Jinping, President Joko Widodo of Indonesia and King Mswati III of the Kingdom of Swaziland together signed the Bandung Communiqué 2015. The Communiqué came into effect formally. Other participating leaders signed the Communiqué respectively before the commemorative meeting.
President Joko Widodo of Indonesia, President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, President U Thein Sein of Myanmar, Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab of Egypt and Vice President Jorge Arreaza of Venezuela addressed the commemorative meeting respectively, saying that injustice, irrationality and imbalance remain prominent in the international community, therefore, the vast developing countries are still facing huge challenges in safeguarding their rights and interests as well as achieving their own development. In such a context, it is of important realistic significance for Asian and African state leaders to gather in Bandung, review the Bandung Spirit, seek unity, friendship and cooperation as well as pledge their commitment to common development and prosperity of developing countries.
The Asian-African Summit was concluded in Jakarta in the afternoon of April 23. At the concluding ceremony, the participating state leaders adopted three outcome documents including the "Bandung Communiqué 2015", "Statement of Reviving the New Type of Strategic Partnership Between Asia and Africa" and "Statement on the Palestinian Issue".
Xi Jinping arrived in Bandung from Jakarta after attending the concluding ceremony of the Asian-African Summit in the evening of April 23.
Peng Liyuan, Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others attended the above activities respectively.
From April 18 to 24, 1955, the Asian-African Summit was held in Bandung, known to history as the Bandung Conference. The representatives of the twenty-nine Asian and African countries and regions attended the Bandung Conference that year. As the first international conference initiated by Asian and African countries in history, the Bandung Conference concentrated on a series of major issues related to Asian and African countries, advocated the Bandung Spirit of unity, friendship and cooperation which has taken deep roots in people's hearts, and reached the ten principles which have served as important principles governing international relations.
