Jia Qinglin holds talks with Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly of Indonesia |
On March 27, 2006, Chairman Jia Qinglin of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held talks with Chairman Hidayat Nur Wahid of the People's Consultative Assembly of Indonesia and met with Speaker Ginandjar Kartasasmita of the Regional Representatives Council in Jakarta. Both sides exchanged in-depth views on bilateral relations and issues of common interest, indicating that they will jointly push for in-depth development of bilateral strategic partnership.
Jia conveyed the greetings from Chairman Wu Bangguo of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) to Hidayat and Ginandjar. Hidayat and Ginandjar asked Jia to convey their cordial greetings and best wishes to Wu.
During the talks, Jia made positive comments on the development of bilateral relations. He said that both countries have been friendly neighbors from time immemorial and both peoples have established a profound friendship during the nearly 2000 years of exchanges. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 56 years ago, in particular in recent years, bilateral relations have scored great development with frequent high-level exchanges between both sides and mutual political trust continuously strengthened. Both sides have conducted fruitful economic and trade cooperation, steadily expanded exchanges and cooperation in the areas of science & technology, culture and education and maintained close communication and cooperation in international affairs. Both peoples have shown mutual understanding and support in the process of responding to the Asian financial crisis, SARS, bird flu and tsunami disaster and the traditional friendship has been further deepened. Last year marks a milestone in the development history of bilateral relations. President Hu and President Susilo jointly announced the establishment of bilateral strategic partnership, which has pushed bilateral relations and mutually beneficial cooperation into a new period of all-round development at a higher level.
Jia said that this year is an important one for enriching and developing bilateral strategic partnership. China would like to work with Indonesia to implement the important consensus reached between the heads of state of both sides, expand and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in the areas of economy, trade, investment, infrastructure construction, energy and resources exploitation and push for continuous development of bilateral strategic partnership so that both countries will remain good neighbors, friends and partners forever.
After introducing the CPPCC system, Jia indicated that the CPPCC would like to conduct exchanges and cooperation at all levels with the People's Consultative Assembly and the Regional Representatives Council of Indonesia and make contributions to building up mutual understanding and friendship between both peoples and promoting common prosperity, progress and development of both countries.

Hidayat and Ginandjar fully agreed with Jia's comments on bilateral relations and his proposals on further advancing such relations. They said that the friendly exchanges between both sides enjoy a time-honored history and the two peoples have always held profound feelings towards each other. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties, bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation have been kept closer. During the tsunami disaster that hit Indonesia and in the process of post-disaster reconstruction, the Chinese government and people have offered lots of assistance, for which the Indonesian government and people were deeply thankful. China has become Indonesia's main economic partner and bilateral relations have entered the best period.
Hidayat and Ginandjar indicated that both countries are large developing nations in Asia and to strengthen exchanges and cooperation and learn from each other conforms to the fundamental interest of both sides and is conducive to peace and development of this region. Indonesia would like to keep closer high-level exchanges with China, expand cooperation in economy, trade and other areas and enhance development level of strategic partnership. The People's Consultative Assembly and the Regional Representatives Council of Indonesia would like to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the CPPCC and push for all-round development of bilateral relations. The Indonesian side believed that bilateral relations will embrace a better future.
Jia said that the Taiwan question is related to China's state sovereignty and territorial integrity, involves the national feelings of the 1.3 billion Chinese people and is China's core interest. China appreciates the Indonesian government and parliament for adherence to the one-China policy and opposition to activities aiming at "Taiwan independence".
Hidayat and Ginandjar thanked the Chinese government for supporting the efforts of the Indonesian government and people in safeguarding territorial integrity and reaffirmed that Indonesia will as always resolutely pursue the one-China policy and hopes to see the early realization of China's grand cause of peaceful reunification.
