2020/07/24

Question: The China-Indonesia cooperation on phase 3 clinical trial of COVID-19 vaccine has drawn wide attention among Indonesian media. Could the Chinese Embassy share some updates? What are the prospects of the vaccine cooperation?

Answers: Since the outbreak began, China and Indonesia has rendered each other support which testifies to their profound friendship of solidarity and mutual assistance. President Xi Jinping spoke with President Joko Widodo twice on the phone, reaching important consensus on jointly fighting the pandemic. Both President Xi Jinping and President Joko Widodo called for international cooperation on research and development of vaccine and medicine during the G20 virtual summit. High-level officials from both countries have maintained communication on several occasions on joint research and development of COVID-19 vaccine. The cooperation between Sinovac and Bio Farma is a concrete action to implement the consensus of the two presidents.

China and Indonesia have maintained communication on vaccine cooperation through diplomatic channels, and actively supported and facilitated the phase 3 clinical trial of COVID-19 vaccine between these enterprises. The relevant authorities of both governments attach great importance to the cooperation and have completed relevant approval procedures within a short period of time. As a result, the vaccine developed by Sinovac has arrived in Indonesia smoothly. The Chinese side sincerely hopes the clinical trial will run smoothly and achieve the desired results. The Chinese side will continue to maintain close communication and cooperation with Indonesia to facilitate the clinical trial, so as to make timely contribution to Indonesia’s fight against the outbreak.
