Chinese Embassy in Indonesia Holds Reception to Celebrate 90th Anniversary of Founding of PLA

On July 28th, 2017, the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia hosted a reception to mark the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), at Hotel Borobudur, Jakarta, .

Major General Hartind Asrin, Representative of the Indonesian Minister of Defence; Vice Admiral Desi Albert Mamahit, Special Staff to the Chief of Navy; Retired Lieutenant General Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Former Deputy Minister of Defence, were present as the guests of honor. About 700 guests including high-ranking TNI officers, senior officials, ambassadors and MILAT Corp members, politician and business celebrities, leaders of overseas Chinese communities, Chinese Chargé d'Affaires Sun Weide and other senior Chinese diplomats attended the reception.

In the welcome speech, Senior Colonel Zhou Jian, Chinese Army, Navy & Air Attaché, briefed on PLA's heroical contributions and great development throughout the years. Sr. Col. Zhou Jian said, "Today, Chinese PLA stays true to its mission and maintain courage and diligence." As inspired and guided by the goal of Chairman Xi Jinping to build a strong military, the PLA has further strengthened ideological and political work, intensified training and preparedness for battle, deepened military reforms and enforced strict disciplines. PLA endeavors to build a people's army that "follow the Party, fight to win, forge exemplary conduct", so as to safeguard the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.

Sr. Col. Zhou Jian stressed that, "the battle-hardened PLA is unafraid of war yet cherishes peace more than anything else". The PLA is not only committed to defending China's peaceful development, but also safeguarding world peace and justice. As it continues to grow from strength to strength, the PLA has stepped up participation in such operations as UN peacekeeping, global counter-terrorism, commercial vessel protection, international disaster relief and humanitarian assistance. The PLA has shouldered more international responsibility and obligations and made positive contribute to world peace, stability and common development.

"Recent years have witnessed fast development of China-Indonesia mil-to-mil relations", as remarked by Sr.Col. Zhou Jian. Defense cooperation and exchanges have become an integral part of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. In an effort to foster a favorable environment for peaceful development, China has put forward the "One Belt & One Road", which is warmly received by Indonesia and many other countries. The PLA upholds the security concept that calls for common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security. The PLA is ready to work with the armed forces of other countries to develop a global security approach that features joint efforts, shared benefits and win-win results.

In his speech, the Representative of Minister of Defence, M.G. Hartind warmly congratulated on the 90th anniversary of the Chinese PLA on behalf of the Indonesia Minister of Defence. "The defense cooperation between Indonesia and China has experienced a significant progress in the recent years", as remarked by M.G. Hartind. "I wish that this 90th anniversary of the Chinese PLA could be utilized as the momentum to foster the existing good cooperation between the Indonesian Defense Forces and the Chinese PLA".

A photo exhibition titled "Journey of Glory" and the newly-made documentary "PLA Today" were also on display at the reception. Guests expressed admiration for the efforts and contribution made by the Chinese armed forces in UN peacekeeping, international anti-terrorism, commercial vessel protection, international disaster relief, humanitarian assistance, and other fields. The Indonesian Naval Band staged a special performance. The reception was a warm and friendly celebration of the burgeoning mil-to-mil relations between China and Indonesia.
